JILL PURCE is a renowned British voice teacher, Family Constellations therapist, and author. In 1970, she also developed a new way of working with the voice and introducing the teaching of group overtone chanting, producing a single note whilst amplifying vocal harmonics. Jill established over 30 books as general editor of the Thames and Hudson Art and Imagination series. She worked in Germany along with the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen for 3 years. Since the early 1970s, she taught diverse forms of contemplative chant, especially overtone chanting.

Jill was also awarded a Leverhulme Research Fellowship at King’s College London, Biophysics Department, to expand the spiral as a universal structure. Where she initiated a dialogue between science and spirituality with Maurice Wilkins (Nobel laureate with Watson and Crick for the discovery of DNA) and lectured to the British Society for Social Responsibility in Science.

From 1974 to 1976, she gave lectured at the Architectural Association School of Architecture and Chelsea College of Art and Design and was a visiting lecturer at numerous universities and art schools, on art and sacred traditions; form and the spiral; and the tradition of music, sound, and the voice as a contemplative practice in diverse cultures.

Jill has been following the philosophy and practice of Dzogchen since 1978 when she started working with the Tibetan Lama, Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche. She lectures and conducts workshops internationally, especially The Healing Voice, exploring diverse forms of spiritual chant and guiding non-singers and singers in their pursuit of the lost voice. She has taught the English National Opera and The English Shakespeare Company, as well as teaching in hospitals, schools, monastic communities, and businesses.
